The Bangkok City Hall and City Square, an expansive area connecting diverse contexts including temples, shrines, and Chinese-style pavilions, as well as the old district of eateries and shops. In the past, it used to be the site of a bustling market and a row of shophouses along Dinso Road before being developed into the present-day City Hall and open square.

ศาลาว่าการกรุงเทพมหานคร และลานคนเมือง เป็นพื้นที่ทํางานของข้าราชการที่สังกัดกรุงเทพมหานครฯ บริเวณลานคนเมืองเคยเป็นตึกแถว และที่ตั้งของตลาดเสาชิงช้ามาก่อน ที่จะมีการก่อสร้างอาคารเทศบาลขึ้นในช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2480 ต่อมาในสมัยรัฐบาลจอมพลป. พิบูลสงคราม ได้มีนโยบายในการสร้างอาคารศาลาว่าการเทศบาลนครกรุงเทพขึ้นดังที่ปรากฎในปัจจุบัน รูปแบบอาคารเป็นอาคารคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก สถาปัตยกรรมไทยร่วมสมัย ออกแบบโดย หม่อมเจ้าสมัยเฉลิม กฤดากร สถาปนิกพิเศษ กรมศิลปากรในขณะนั้น

The Bangkok City Hall and the City Square are working areas for officials under the jurisdiction of Bangkok. The City Square area was once a row of buildings and the location of the traditional market, Sao Ching Cha. The construction of the municipal building began around the year 2480 B.E. Later, during the government of Field Marshal Pibulsongkram, there was a policy to build the Bangkok City Hall as seen today. The building features a reinforced concrete structure with Thai contemporary architecture, designed by Prince Chalerm Kridakorn, a special architect from the Fine Arts Department at that time.
